Discover Barge Cadhla

barge cadhla
"Beautiful"
The Irish name Cadhla, pronounced ‘Ky-la’, means "beautiful" and "graceful," perfectly encapsulating the essence of this authentic replica inspired by a 1922 Guinness brewery canal barge. A time-travelling beauty, it provides Dubliners and visitors with a distinctive experience while cruising along the Grand Canal.

A barge with a story

Cadhla combines tradition and modernity with a hull form based on a traditional Guinness canal barge vessel and a contemporary art-deco interior that exudes elegance and style.

Arriving in Dún Laoghaire, Monkstown by trailer from the Netherlands on 21 December 2009, the first lady of ceremony was her namesake, 4-year-old Miss Keela (Cadhla) Rigby, who cracked a bottle of Guinness Stout across her bows.

It later set sail for the Grand Canal Dock for a final fit-out, opening its doors in February 2010.

Measuring 17 metres in length and 3.8 metres in width, Cadhla prioritises comfort and spaciousness, the interior has a full audio system, an on-board galley (kitchen) and a fully-stocked bar.
